Until now, French chanson had convinced us that “love stories usually end badly”. From now on, we can add that “love stories that end one day are the most beautiful of all”. These punchline-like lyrics are (literally) the heart of Léo Meynard’s second EP, aka St Graal. The confirmation of a particular talent discovered in 2021 on the networks with his viral hit “Les dauphins” with millions of views on TikTok.
And then you might think: well, another ordinary story in an age where sudden breakthroughs like this, but mostly without a tomorrow to sing about, are plentiful. But no, the twenty-six-year-old showed in 2022, when he won the Prix du Public at the Inouïs du Printemps de Bourges festival, and then released a first EP last year, “le Cœur qui cogne”, that a new French school, marked by the French touch, uninhibited pop and 90’s rock, had a serious contender for the top. This promising calling card enabled him to tour the stages of France, testing out new songs that the public once again naturally embraced. An excerpt from a video filmed during a concert at La Boule Noire of an unreleased track - the hedonistic anthem ‘Je t’emmènerai’- sent the web into a frenzy. Goncourisé’ writer Nicolas Mathieu, a self-confessed ‘fan’, even described the track as a ‘summer hit’.
